Faithfulness in Every Area of Life

Why is faithfulness important to a life of focus?

Do you want to be trusted? Do you want people to know that they can trust you with responsibility? If this is true of you, therein is your answer.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines faithfulness as “the quality of being faithful; fidelity.”[1] In other words, you demonstrate loyalty to a person, cause, belief, etc. In doing so, you gain the trust of those around you.

A Biblical Example: Nehemiah

Nehemiah is a wonderful biblical example of faithfulness. He was faithful to God, the Word of God, Israel, and the project to which he was given the charge. As a matter of fact, Nehemiah’s faithfulness in these areas led him to complete the rebuilding of the wall and securing the city in a record time!

But, Nehemiah also gives us an example of what it means to recognize the faithfulness of others and to place his trust in them. The work was done and Nehemiah had to leave to Jerusalem and return to Persia. He gave the care of Jerusalem to Hannah his brother and Hannaniah, the governor of the castle, “for he was a more faithful and God-fearing man than many (Nehemiah 7:2).” In other words, Nehemiah recognized the loyalty of these men and rewarded them by entrusting the city to them.

The Importance of Faithfulness

    • A life of focus chooses to be faithful to God. I am unapologetically a follower of Jesus Christ. Therefore, I believe that if you do not first and foremost choose to be faithful to God, you will not be as faithful as you could be in other areas of your life.
    • A life of focus chooses to invest in people. Apart from your relationship with God, investing in people is the most important thing you can do in your life. You were designed by God to have relationships. But, there are relationships that can be harmful to you. Which leads me to the next point.
    • A life of focus chooses wisely its loyalty. Why would you choose to be loyal to something or someone that ultimately will harm you? The key word is “wisely”. The fact is that you may be drifting along in life. As a result, you may be making unwise choices. You may be choosing to be faithful to someone or something that is ultimately going to be harmful to you.
  • A life of focus desires to be trustworthy. There is no good reason to live a life in which you cannot be trusted. I suspect that you want people to think good of you. How can they think well of you if you cannot be trusted? The person who is concerned about living a focused life will be concern about faithfulness.
